In 1957, Willie Mae’s opened as a bar, barbershop and beauty salon. It dropped the beauty salon in the 70’s and started serving food to its bar customers, and in 2005 Ms. Willie Mae Seaton won the James Beard Award for “America’s Classic Restaurant for the Southern Region.” Today the restaurant is owned and operated by Willie Mae’s great grand-daughter who still uses her Granma’s timeless recipes.
